Product Purity & Ingredients
What makes Badri Cow Ghee different from normal cow ghee?
Badri cattle are a recognised indigenous hill breed of Uttarakhand, associated with the state's steep terrain and livestock heritage. They free-graze on pristine mountain pastures, medicinal herbs, and fresh foliage. Their milk is naturally concentrated in nutrients and has been revered for generations in Pahadi households.
A1 or A2 status is determined by the beta-casein protein genetics in milk, not by cattle breed alone. While Badri is a celebrated indigenous hill breed of Uttarakhand, scientific studies show that A2A2 beta-casein is present in Jersey populations as well as indigenous Indian cattle. At Ghar Aangan, we work directly with Uttarakhand mountain farmers who rear Badri cattle, local Uttarakhand cattle, and other breeds including Jersey. We test every batch for verified A2 beta-casein purity while keeping breed identity and protein genetics distinct and transparent.
The Bilona method is our traditional 5-step process. First, A2 milk is boiled slowly on earthen stoves using firewood. Second, the milk is cultured overnight in earthen pots. Third, the curd is churned back-and-forth slowly using wooden whisks to extract butter. Fourth, the butter is slowly melted on wood fires until water evaporates, leaving golden granular ghee.
During the slow simmering process of making ghee, the milk solids, lactose, and casein are completely separated and filtered out. As a result, Ghar Aangan ghee is virtually lactose-free and casein-free, making it easy to digest and suitable for most dairy-sensitive individuals.
A granular (danedaar) texture is a natural characteristic of high-quality, wood-fired Bilona ghee. When pure ghee is cooled slowly at room temperature, it crystallizes naturally. This granularity is proof of purity and authentic wooden churning.

Storage & Shelf Life
Pure wood-fired Bilona ghee is highly stable and has a long shelf life of 12-18 months at room temperature. Always store it in a cool, dry place and use a clean, dry spoon to prevent moisture from entering.
No, pure ghee should never be refrigerated. Storing it in the refrigerator will introduce moisture and ruin its beautiful granular texture. Keep it in your kitchen pantry away from direct sunlight.
Our ghee is natural and handmade in small batches. Variations in color (from light yellow to deep gold) and aroma occur naturally depending on the seasonal pasture diet of our free-grazing mountain cattle. This variation is a sign of an authentic, non-industrialized food product.
Absolutely. Pure A2 ghee has a very high smoke point of 250°C (482°F). Unlike unstable oils, it does not break down or release harmful free radicals at high temperatures, making it the healthiest choice for cooking, sautéing, and baking.
Himalayan Staples & Seasonings
Our traditional Pahadi Gud is prepared by slow wood-fired boiling of fresh sugarcane juice. It is unrefined, completely chemical-free, and blended with native mountain herbs, seeds, and premium dry fruits like Kaju, Badam, Kismis, and Saunf to create nutrient-rich varieties.
Pisyu Loon refers to traditional Himalayan flavored salts. We hand-crust rock salt on traditional stone slabs (Sil-Batta) along with native mountain herbs, seeds, and spices like hemp (Bhaang) and red chilis to add a smoky, tangy flavor to your foods.
Yes, our Pahadi Mandua Ka Aata (Ragi / Finger Millet Flour) is naturally gluten-free. It is slowly stone-ground to keep its vital nutrients intact, making it exceptionally high in calcium, iron, and dietary fiber.
No, all our pulses (including Premium Rajma, Bhatt Ki Dal/Black Soyabean, Gauhat/Kulthi, and Lobia) are mountain-grown, completely unpolished, and cultivated in chemical-free soil, preserving their plant-based proteins and natural dietary fibers.
