COMMUNITY & EMPOWERMENT

Mountain Cooperatives

At Ghar Aangan, our mission goes beyond making pure A2 ghee. We collaborate directly with women-led self-help groups and small farming families across high-altitude Himalayan cooperatives, ensuring sustainable wages and preserving native heritage.

WOMEN-LED SELF HELP GROUPS

Women-Led Collective Growth

Traditionally, women in the high hills of Uttarakhand carry the burden of dairy farming and household labor but lack direct economic independence. By partnering with village-level self-help groups (SHGs), Ghar Aangan ensures that women are the primary handlers and earners of our ghee-making cooperatives.

From curd-setting to wood-fired simmering and back-and-forth wooden Bilona churning, these rural women run the entire production line. Earning direct bank-transferred wages, they gain financial self-reliance, helping fund their children’s higher education and investing back in their community's health.

FAIR & SUSTAINABLE

Fair Trade & Transparent Wages

In typical industrial milk chains, middle brokers control pricing, leaving small-scale hill farmers underpaid. We bypass third-party middle brokers completely, purchasing milk directly from the families at pre-established premium rates that are 40% higher than local market standards.

This transparent model ensures that the high costs of mountain cattle rearing are met, making Badri cow farming a viable, sustainable, and respected livelihood. We also dedicate 5% of our profits directly to local veterinary health camps and organic dairy feed subsidies.

COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES

How We Preserve Mountain Ecosystems

Badri Cow Protection

Supporting free-grazing Badri cattle breeds native to Uttarakhand. We feed them organic, pesticide-free local grains and mountain flora, strictly avoiding hormones or artificial feeds.

Eco-Friendly Simmering

Using fallen pine needles and sustainably sourced dry oak firewood for heating curd and butter. This protects Uttarakhand’s dense forests while capturing authentic clay oven smoke.

Preserving Folk Arts

By sustaining wooden Bilona churning, we keep the artisanal skill of wood carving and back-and-forth rope whisks alive for future generations, preventing the loss of traditional dairy art.
